Indians and Pakistani are world famous in their taste for jewelry when it comes to weddings and major traditional occasions. When a woman gets married in these South Asian Countries, she is adorned with heavy jewelry from head to toe. The traditional wedding dresses combined with the ideal jewelry make a perfect combination. The bridal jewelry is usually in contrast with the wedding dress. Sometimes traditionally gold jewelry is handed down as family heirlooms as well. Women want to look their best for their wedding and therefore they choose from a wide range of jewelry designs for their wedding.
If you are a Pakistani bride-to-be then there are a few ornaments that you would like to have for your wedding day. Traditional Pakistani bridal jewelry includes a number of different pieces for various purposes. The most important jewelry that a bride has to have is the necklace. In some regions brides are expected to wear more than one set or necklace.

Traditionally there is a galla band and a longer necklace called chokar that comes till the end of the blouse. There is another type of necklace set known as teen larra, this type of set has three different levels; one is short and around the neck, the next is a little longer and the third again comes till the end of the blouse. Traditionally the bridal jewelry should be pure gold with precious stones, but recently people are opting to go for white gold or silver with precious or semi precious stones. Also sometimes people prefer to choose less heavy sets for their weddings.
Bangles are also another major part of the bridal jewelry. There are many different types of designs for bangles from pure gold solid bangles to designed and studded and the Hyderabadi bangles which are hand painted. Sometimes bangles are accompanied by two Karras on either side of the bangles. Other ornaments that a bride can adorn on her hands and wrist are the Bazu Band, Panjangla, and rings with different stones and styles. On the side of the head just above the ear a bride wears a jhoomar, or a Matha Patti that covers the entire head. Some brides also wear a Nath on their nose. Earrings for bridal jewelry are usually heavy and the most common type of bridal earrings are the jhumkay. They have a fairly large base and sort of like an upside down hanging cup at the bottom. All in all bridal jewelry in South Asian Countries is heavy and studded with precious stones. Some girls also wear a payal around their ankles.
