A classic bun accented with vintage gold hair accessories
This wedding hairstyle inspiration comes from a real bride – Emily accented her classically romantic updo with a gold ribbon headband and vintage brooch for her Boston wedding.
Peony Bridal Hair Accessories
Peonies are popping up big in bridal hair ornaments this year.
The hand-curled feathers of Twigs & Honey’s Peony Hairpin for BHLDN make for pillowy, whimsical loveliness while Jennifer Behr’s Natalia uses lush, hand-stitched silk peonies and French veiling to interweave high couture and charm. I love the fluttery romance of both lines—a perfect way to add elegance to your bridal ‘do without making it scarily overdone.

Abbie Cornish’s modern take on Old Hollywood glamour
Actress Abbie Cornish looked lovely at the premiere of Limitless – her updo channeled the style of old school movie stars, but still felt fresh. Wedding hairstylists tell me that brides often request a “glamorous Old Hollywood look,” and I think this is the perfect way to pull it off with a modern twist. Nexxus Creative Director Kevin Mancuso, who created Abbie’s look, says that leaving one side slightly looser than the other—playing on the popular asymmetrical trend—is what keeps this style updated.
To recreate the look, spray wet hair with volumizing spray gel, then part hair to one side and blow dry with a round brush, rolling hair away from the face. Set hair in small velcro rollers, and after hair cools, remove the rollers and gently brush. Apply a small amount of styling lotion (like Nexxus Verastyler Artistic Designing Lotion) and comb hair back with your fingers. Pull hair into a ponytail and use the tail of a comb to loosen and lift at the crown (on one side of the part only). Tuck the bottom of the ponytail up and under, then pin in place.
Glamorous Vintage-inspired Updo
With the upcoming royal wedding on their minds, hairstylists Mika Rummo and Nikki Ray of Salon AKS in New York City were inspired to create this glam updo around a whimsical, English-wedding appropriate feathered hat.
To create the look, they started by smoothing a quarter-size dollop of styling cream through the hair for shine and control. Then they created an exaggerated deep side part, and brushed both sides back and securing for a tight, sleek effect.
To create a base for the bun, the loose hair was gently teased, then lightly brushed into a classic bun shape. The hat was placed slightly off center, about two inches away from the hairline.
Note: when wearing a fascinator with a veil, you want the veil to just cover the tip of your nose.
